Bill, I have experienced similar problems on vibrating screens etc in the past. A lot of effort went in to trying to a) reduce the amount of downtime b) reduce the amount of maintenance completed on the units once a problem was suspected and c) ascertaining the best practice for highlighting problems. The solutions which worked for us included:- 1. Fixing quick release studs to the plummer block bearings (and motor) for repeatability of data and getting the best frequency response from the accel. 2. Use a combination of HFD (or other HF detection) together with an enveloping measurement. 3. Keep the Fmax low and the resolution high (probably around 200 Hz for your bearings and 4-800 lines of resolution). 4. Combine the above with temperature measurements at all accessible locations (maybe include thermal imaging if you have it). 5. 2 velocity measurements, one with the 1x filtered out and one broad overall measurement. The effect of trending the above information should assist in pinpointing where your problem area is when the time comes. Therefore you should then be able to target which maintenance actions to complete, rather than full machine overhaul. Hope this helps. Steve
