Cracked Roll Journals

Our sister plant that does not use vibration analysis had a roll journal break that caused a lot of damage in the Fiberglass Mat Machine (similar to a paper machine). This prompted management to hire a non destructive testing company to check all the roll journals. I am wondering if cracked journals would show up in vibration analysis and if so what would it look like. Would it show up early enough to schedule repairs or would it only show up when it was very bad?
