If your are lucky enough to have a vibration program you might be lucky enough to have trend data. Trended over a period of time. You should see in the trend a sudden change (drop) in amplitude when the journal cracks. When the journal cracks it changes it's stiffness, and a change in stiffness will show up as a change in amplitude. When you see something like this it is best to schedule a change in the peice of equipment as soon as practical. Failure is immient.
